24. "Cathedral"

by Wayne Urffer
Found objects and reclaimed wood

Exhibition Location: Moorestown Mall, Boscov's Wing, Route 38 at Lenola Rd., Moorestown

Statement from the artist:

The mahogany and mahogany-veneered wood in this piece comes from a derelict player piano that was salvaged, by the artist, from the basement of the Philadelphia Sketch Club at 235 South Camac Street in Philadelphia, Penn. The Philadelphia Sketch Club, founded in 1860 by a group of “Bohemian” students from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, is the oldest continuously functioning artists’ club in the United States, and counts among its alumnae such luminaries as Thomas Eakins, Alice Kent Stoddard, N.C. Wyeth, Walter Emerson Baum, Maxfield Parrish, Benton Spruance and Alexander Calder.
